Converse is at it again. Last year the company released “My Drive Thru”, an exclusive collaborative track featuring Pharrell, Santogold and Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas. Today the company’s newest mix was released. This time it’s a summer anthem properly titled “All Summer”. Kid Cudi handles the verses and Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino sings the chorus. Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij is responsible for the instrumentation.

The track provides some good vibes for the season with Cosentino singing “All year long we wait for sun”, and Cudi proclaiming “We don’t worry ’bout a thing”.  Rostam’s melodies are fantastic and fit both the rapping and singing.  The one downside of the song is Cudi seems to drop off after the first verse.  There isn’t a real second verse and the rest of the song seems a bit repetitive with the opening hook and chorus separated by bridges that lead nowhere.  The final verdict is it’s a good song to add to a summer playlist,  but it won’t become my personal summer anthem.

It is however, a brilliant marketing ploy by Converse.  The shoes that once graced the feet of basketball legends are now some of the preferred kicks of hipsters and others outside the mainstream.  This track fits that brand profile perfectly and will surely drum up traffic and media attention to the Converse site.
